THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE

Relief from pain, stiffness or injury and much more

What is the Bowen technique?

It is a hands on therapy treating all manner of physical complaints.

The practitioner mainly uses thumbs and fingers on precise points on the body to make rolling type moves which aim to disturb the muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body.

During treatment there are periods where the client is left resting for a short time to allow the body to absorb the gentle moves that have been performed, giving the body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments which help to re-balance, relieve tension and reduce pain.

The Bowen Technique encourages the body to realign itself; there is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and no force is used or needed.

The Bowen Technique is not a form of massage. Patients who don't like massage generally find they can tolerate The Bowen Technique well.

Bowen treatments can be done lying on a bed or in a seated position if lying is difficult due to pain or mobility problems.

Treatment is safe and effective and can be given to any age of person and is usually done with the patient fully clothed in light clothing

How long does each session last and how many will I need?

At the beginning of the initial consultation you will be asked a few questions about the nature, location and onset of the complaint and then treatment will be given accordingly.

It is advisable to have around 4 sessions spaced 5-7 days apart, dependant on the nature and severity of the complaint.

After this time patients generally come for 1-2 sessions whenever they feel the need to return.

What can the technique treat?

I have treated all manner of complaints such as pain in shoulders, neck, sciatica, knee and ankle problems, tinnitus, sinus problems and headaches. I have also relieved pain related to Arthritis and muscle spasms associated with problems such as MS. The treatment has the potential to treat lots more.

Due to the nature of the treatment it can also help relieve some symptoms of anxiety and enhance a patient's general well-being

Each session will last 45 minutes.
