Arthritis and all-round relief

It is important for everyone to eat a healthy diet alongside any therapies or treatments they are currently having.

If you have a chronic condition such as arthritis then there are some foods that can aggravate or help stabilise any symptoms you have.

I have helped clients through Arthritic symptoms using both Homeopathy and The Bowen Technique.

Due to the nature of the Bowen technique, It can help ease the inflammation and pain considerably allowing better posture and mobility.

Homeopathy can ease the symptoms by looking at when arthritis started and what was going on around that time.

We can also look at how arthritis makes you feel emotionally and mentally. There are all sorts of things people feel such as being a burden on others and coping with things they cannot do anymore and adapting to new ways of doing things to enable them to stay as independent as possible in the later stages.

There is a train of thought that stress can be a big factor in causing Arthritis. So it can be a good idea to do what you can to lead a less stressful life. CBT can play a role in this if you need any guidance.

Anyway back to the diet and Arthritis

Along with the therapies I would advise clients to research a little about the role diet can play in Arthritis symptoms

It can be advisable to make sure you have a diet that contains the following foods and drinks. All help to reduce inflammation in the body

Vegetables such as cauliflower, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli

Olive oils Ginger and Turmeric

Nuts Whole grains

Dark chocolate

Foods that can aggravate your symptoms are:

Wheat and Dairy products

Tomatoes (all varieties, and tomato products like marinara, ketchup, etc.)

Potatoes (white and red potatoes. (However, sweet potatoes are not nightshades.)

Eggplant

All peppers (bell peppers, jalapeño, chili peppers, and hot peppers)

Red spices (curry powder, chili powder, cayenne powder, red pepper)

Paprika

Pimentos

Tobacco

Goji berries

Ground cherries (different from regular cherries)

Sugars in foods and on its own.

Supplements that can help reduce symptoms are: (please check that supplements are not going to interact with any other medications you are currently taking)

Vitamin E' Selenium' Vitamin d' glucosamine sulfate' tablets with or without added chondroitin

Lifestyle changes that may help are:

Stay active Exercise may be the last thing you want to do when your arthritis hurts. But many studies show that Physical activity is one of the best ways to improve your quality of life. Start off gently and stay within your capabilities.

Use hot or cold packs. By increasing blood flow, hot compresses can ease pain and stiffness. Cold compresses reduce swelling. You may want to experiment with heat versus cold packs to see what works best for you.

Sleep.

Make sure you get a good night's sleep reduce screen time at least an hour before bed and use it to rest read or do meditations or do some very gentle exercise such as gentle yoga.

Don't go to bed on a full stomach as this can affect the quality of sleep as your body is still working to digest the meal you ate previously

I hope these help and i would love to hear what has helped you with your symptoms of arthritis

Until next time

Ellen
